RE: Plans to Travel across Canada

Lobster will be in season in the Saint John area in May/June. Each area
has a different "season". LK can probably give you the lowdown.

RE: Gas prices dropping like lead balloon in the US

What are your predictions on the Cdn $???? We're lucky and bought awhile
ago so the winter is secure. For anybody planning a Canadian trip this summer
is now a good time to convert US for Cdn?

RE: Plans to Travel across Canada

In order to get to Nova Scotia, PEI and NL, you do have to pass through
New Brunswick, which should be mentioned. Please take time to see the
Fundy Trail, a beautiful campground on the Bay of Fundy at St. Martins,
Century Farm, as well as lots of neat cities to discover. Saint John was
the first incorporated city in Canada, so lots of history there.
Take advantage of our lobster/clams/scallops/fiddleheads/dulse, just to
mention a few treats. Don't forget to visit Grand Manan and Campobello,
wonderful provincial parks with facilities and great rates.
Contact the tourism offices of each province and have them send you their
package.....it's definitely worth the time. Lots of great ideas.
Get yourself an atlas called Back Roads of Atlantic Canada...a good investment
if going to any Eastern Province, that's where you will find the beauty.
(Available at Costco for sure.)

RE: Gas prices dropping like lead balloon in the US

In Canada, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI have regulated gas prices.
Our prices are adjusted once a week, depending on the markets.
I wonder if the next generations will not need so much oil. Maybe they will
get their energy from the sun, wind and water. Imagine, with all the education
available and all the wonderful minds out there, we're still so dependent on
oil.

RE: The old Lance is gone....

Sorry to hear about your Mother. I went through l0 years with the disease
with my Mom. If I could offer a word of advice, don't let the guilt get you.
Also, go where she is in her mind rather than try to bring her to your mind.
Don't be afraid to laugh... there will be lots of giggles and AD patients are
masters of fibbing. There's a great support system out there, take advantage
of it....you're not alone. Good Luck.

RE: Fundy nat. park, lots of empty CS = $$

The bridge crossing Salmon River opened a week or so ago. This will allow
a road linking the Fundy Trail from St. Martins to Fundy Park. It will be
a beautiful drive.

RE: Hurricane Kyle is now a hurricane

Glad to report nothing. It was a calm night, we live off Rte l from
Saint John - Moncton near Norton and although we were supposed to get winds
and lots of rain.....next to no rain and not much wind. There were some
pieces of rope on the deck that I forgot to put in the garbage and they were
still there this am. Went to Moncton this morning and not a thing out of
the ordinary, the sun was shining by noon.
Waste of time shining those rubber boots.

RE: Hurricane Kyle is now a hurricane

Yes, it is the rain that is probably going to be our worst enemy. We lost
a lot of beach with Hannah, but this seems to be coming and stopping and
not a straight down rain that we got from Hannah. We dug a new ditch since
Hannah, so this will be a good test. Hope to keep our beach sandy.
Dany and Shula are trying to get back to Toronto to observe their "New Year"
with family. Heading for Moncton in the am.

RE: Hurricane Kyle is now a hurricane

Well, we're very close to the projected path of this storm. However, nothing
yet, just clouds and intermittent rain (not hard). We've spent the weekend
picking up anything which may take flight and have water/flashlights, etc.
on hand and are ready for a rough day tomorrow.
Unfortunately, Saint John closed down the airport today and friends were due
to leave for Toronto at 7pm. They are now booked for Moncton to Hamilton
tomorrow at 5pm or so. I'm hoping we will be able to drive to Moncton (l l/2
hrs) tomorrow and the airport is open.
We have not had a bad storm like this for years and not looking forward to
the clean up.
I'm a bit disappointed in the Canadian Weather Network as to the reports of
this storm. We are hungry for a visual report and late morning/early
afternoon reports were pitiful in projected paths, etc. CTV had some reports
but nothing much in depth any time I checked in.

RE: Need a place to stay

In the Lady Lakes area there is a campground called Recreation Plantation.
It is beautiful and last we were there had reasonable rates. Just south
of Ocala off Rte 27. Lots of facilities/laundry/washrooms/clubhouse/pool,
etc. Lovely.

Thank you very much!!!
That's exactly what I wanted to hear. My largest concern is the breadmaker,
I'm not exactly Martha Stewart, but do love my bread and biscuits. Will definitely give it a try.

Need some help with flour please

We are snowbirding in Largo, Fl and because we're flying this year,
I'm unable to take my "robin hood" flour. Any Canadian ladies out
there who can recommend a good US substitute? It's nice to have a
park model, but I sure miss the "hauling capacity" of an RV on the
road.

RE: no fuel for TC's in Knoxville, TN area... Ike caused?

We live in a city that has the largest oil refinery in the Northeast, Irving
Oil. They are building a second refinery in conjunction with BP in the near
future. Our province regulates our gas prices meaning that we have a change
in prices, either up or down a few cents every Thursday. However, we have an
interuptor clause in case something happens and they feel the price needs an
adjustment before the week ends. Last night the interuptor clause was put
into effect and our gas went up l3 cents per litre to l.39/litre.
We needed some gas, so went to the local country gas station and the line
was about 20 cars long.....really something here. When we got to the pumps,
all the reg. gas was gone and I'll be da....ed if I'm using super unleaded for
our lawn mower. We came home and laughed at ourselves for joining in the
crazy gouging scheme that goes on and everyone in the government swears there's
nothing anyone can do.
I can't imagine how people are going to live/work when wages/pensions are
not being increased to meet this crazy inflation. Now that's nothing to laugh
at!!!!

RE: Free Overnight Parking in New Brunswick?

There is a WalMart in Sussex, NB at exit 192, also in Moncton at Mapleton Rd
exit. Turn right at exit for Mapleton, go through construction to top of hill
Go straight through the light and take the next right at the first light.
You will find WalMart on your right.
You are approximately 2 l/2 hrs from Charlottetown from Moncton. Sussex is
before Moncton on Rte l and will be 45 minutes from Moncton.
Have fun and enjoy PEI.

Invitation to New Brunswick

Hi Folks, we are putting in time before we leave for Florida for
the winter and would like to invite any truck campers for an overnight
or whatever on your way through New Brunswick off Rte l or Rte 2. You
would exit at Norton, NB. on your way either from or to Saint John.
We are approx 15 miles either way and would welcome up to 5 units at
one time. We are on the water and have/or will have/ beautiful
foliage until we leave on Oct l5 for the south.
Happy camping!!

RE: Suggestions for winter in Tampa area

There are lots of RV parks on the Clearwater/Pinellas Park/Largo area.
Try Travel World, Yankee Traveller, Vacation Village aka Sunburst/Encore,
Lees Travel World, Avalon RV Park, Rainbow Village, all within l5/20 miles
to Phillies Training Field. Also, close to the ball field in St. Pete as
well as Dunedin. Lots more parks in Dunedin.
The price you quoted $l000 per what? season or month?
We stay in Vacation Village on Ulmerton Rd in Largo and it is central to most
everything. Ulmerton Rd is 25 miles long. That will take you to Indian Rocks
on the gulf to Howard Frankland Bridge to Tampa Airport.

RE: Atlantic Balloon Festival in Sussex, New Brunswick

Tarheel, I apologize, the festival is 5, 6, 7. I just checked the newspaper.
Unfortunately, today (Sunday) will be a washout as the rain is coming straight
down and has been since midnight.
Sussex is a neat town if you're coming through Rte l. A nice place to stop,
lots of campgrounds, even a WalMart.
